Accidents on roads due to bribes for licenses

Drivingin India follows a set of unwritten rules, which of course are at odds with theactual rules. The disturbing result is that the highest service denial rate iswhen it comes to driving licences. Service denial means that public service isdenied because of non-payment of bribes. In the past, the union transportminister had termed RTOs as “hotbeds of corruption who have looted more thanChambal dacoits." This is how corruption has led to an increasing numberof unsafe drivers on the road. Individuals hire agents to expedite the processof obtaining licences. The agents collaborate with officers to simplify theprocess of obtaining a licence. Just imagine the situation in any RTO in India.A person seeking a licence has two options: go through an agent or go throughthe correct channels. If everyone went through proper channels and clearedtheir driving tests, then Indian roads would be much safer to drive. Indiansbribe their way through driving tests and then wonder about road deaths.
