Allow Uber, Ola to ply and reduce drunk driving deaths

The majority of accidents in Goa occur  at night -- mainly due to 'speeding in an inebriated  state'. Govt is now mulling a ban on drunken driving. Let us not fool ourselves.  Giving more teeth to the existing law, will not result in  perceptible decrease in the number of accidents. It will only lead to more corruption.

We must understand that tourists visit Goa to have a good time. That being a given, how is the tourist to reach home  late night/ early morning, after downing a couple of pegs? Public transport is virtually  non-existent.  Taxi are very  few  and fares are outlandish. Tourists will travel by easily available bikes on hire. The  only solution, like it or not, is to permit the ride aggregators like Uber, Ola, etc  to ply their trade. Only then can the police crack down on drink driving.  Goan taxi drivers must  be made aware that their  best interests lie in joining hands with the aggregators.   Unfortunately, we Goans are content  to live, like the proverbial frog in the well.
