Goa shacks owners are opposed to the proposal of setting up shacks of one-plus-one each. Shacks owners fear that this is a ploy to bring in big players with deep pockets who will ultimately muscle out the traditional shack owners. Instead of going in for the one-plus-one model, I have an alternative suggestion applicable to all shacks . For a better view of the sea , shacks for next season may be built in 3 levels with the second tier 2 feet higher than the 1st section. Similarly the 3rd and last section may be 2 feet higher than the 2nd tier. Dancing may be permitted after sunset on the 1st section. Entry to the shack must be from the seaside. Additionally the height of beach umbrellas may be lowered by a foot so as to give tourists a better view of the beach.
The concept of plus one is fraught with danger. With rapid climate change , we must be prepared for unseasonal rain and strong winds which can blow away such structures causing loss to properties and even life.
