The recent violence at last Sunday's Anjuna gram sabha where some “goons” physically hit (anti- noise pollution activist) Dr Inacio Fernandes, was a desperate attempt to scuttle any possible resolution, to oppose the proposed Sunburn event in the village. And this objective surely was also that of specific panchas/sarpanch and possibly the local MLA. I think there is absolutely no excuse for such an attack in a democratic forum. I find it hard to believe how these individuals could attack someone in such a public place (with live video recordings) and that too without any fear of the police. I hope that the Anjuna voters pursue the demand with the BDO that the gram sabha be held for the villagers to decide on Sunburn and other mega events. Also, how come that despite the Anjuna panchayat seriously failing to have the minimum number of gram sabhas in the year; the Panchayat Minister, Director of Panchayat/BDO have not yet taken strict action against the Anjuna sarpanch and secretary? I request the Panchayat Minister and the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to step in and take action.
