Many a times we come across warning boards that proclaim “Accident prone zone.” And such boards can be spotted in city and town roads and along highways. One needs to thank the authorities for informing the motorists about the ominous sites so that due care is taken by the drivers. The perplexing issue is, if authorities are aware that certain spots are “accident prone” why cannot the authorities resolve the problem? They need to check as to what ails those accident sites, rectify the defects, undertake remedial measures or find alternatives. This would help to protect innocent lives who may end up losing limbs and lives for no mistake of theirs. To reduce their workload, it appears that the authorities wash off their hands and absolve themselves from any acts of omissions and commissions. By their insensitive act they seem to save themselves from being taken to task by higher-ups and face the ire of the citizens. Hope the Union Ministry for Road Transport and Highways would take action concerning “accident prone zones.”
