It is learnt that the authorities have imposed a ban on digging and cutting of all types of roads including National Highways, State Highways, District Roads, road shoulders, lanes, thoroughfares etc during the monsoon as these activities pose an imminent danger and disruption to the life of motorists, pedestrians and general public.
Surprisingly, the prohibition will not be applicable to any road digging by any government public utility service providing departments such as electricity, PWD, telecom and digging by local bodies for repairs of roads and for diversion of water in emergency cases.
Interestingly, these are the only departments/agencies which carry out the majority of road digging. Be that as it may, what happens to the roads that have already been dug up for carrying out various works at various places across the state besides the capital city Panaji? It is learnt that people living in the Curti-Mardol Priol stretch have demanded immediate restoration of roads dug up recently to lay underground electric cables as it is causing a lot of hardships to them as well as the commuters using this route. It seems prudent to restore the roads that have been dug up before the onset of the monsoon which is a few days away.
