In a bid to curb road accidents in the state it is learnt that the rectification of 65 black spots and accident-prone zones will be taken up in the first week of April after a detailed audit is conducted on each spot. It is understood that in order to provide assistance to victims of road accidents during the ‘golden hour’, training programmes for volunteers will be organized by DHS and EMRI in collaboration with self-help groups. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has introduced a scheme whereby Good Samaritans who rescue victims of serious road accidents and rush them to a hospital within the golden hour will now be rewarded with Rs5,000. They will also be eligible for a cash prize of Rs1 lakh which will be given to 10 such Samaritans in a year. Hence it seems necessary for every vehicular driver to know about the dos and don’ts whenever he/she comes across a victim who needs prompt medical attention. It would be desirable for every citizen applying for a driving license to undergo basic training in treating a traumatic injury.
