On World Rabies Day, the Goa government declared that dogs of specific breeds known for their aggression and attacks on humans will be banned in the state. The government has roped in the home department and department of animal husbandry and veterinary services (AHVS) to ban certain breeds of dogs in the state. A list of ferocious dogs that will be banned is reportedly being prepared. By taking this proactive step, the government is prioritizing the safety and well-being of its citizens. It may be recalled that in a recent incident a Rottweiler pet dog attacked two children near Caranzalem, leaving one of them grievously injured. However it must be said that a bull let loose and unattended on the road can also be very dangerous to the general public. It is learnt that a couple was injured, one of them seriously, after a bull attacked them at Taleigao on Tuesday. The bull went berserk and also damaged vehicles parked at the spot. Besides a ban on ferocious dogs there also needs to be a ban on bulls left unattended on the road.
