This is with reference to the report, "St Francis Xavier statue, cross found desecrated at Colmorod - The Goan Everyday March 11, 2023." The desecration of St. Francis Xavier statue & cross at Colmorod-Margao needs to be condemned. This is an unforgivable crime and the culprits should be brought to book. However, there seems to be an attempt to disturb the communal peace in the region. This incident comes close on the heels of several such incidents in Catholic localities in Mumbai. A grotto glass was broken, a graveyard was desecrated, a saint's statue was stolen, a chapel was demolished. All such incidents seem to point to a larger agenda. In a couple of incidents, the investigations showed that the culprits were in a disturbed state of mind or drug addicts. One wonders however, how is it that such elements get attracted only towards Christian places of worship?
