The government of India along with pharmaceuticals and medical devices bureau of India has introduced Jana Aushadhi Kendra where medicines will be available at cheaper rates. The whole idea to bring the medicines under prime minister's Bharatiya Jana Aushadhi Kendra is to make available medicines at lower rates then the branded ones. The rates will be less as the medicines will be generic medicines with no brand name and hence no cost involved in branding and advertising the same. Generic medicines are with no patents and brands and hence lesser priced by 20% as compared to branded names. The example of generic medicine is paracetamol and same is branded as Crocin or Dolo 650 which is marketed by pharmaceuticals. Goa is also likely to bring out notification as to opening of such kendras in cities and rural areas. Though the Goa Pharmaceuticals Association has welcomed the move they want government to start such centres in district and urban health centres with government hospitals . The government is also likely to call on doctors to prescribe generic medicines so that cost of treatment for the public is within the reach of common man. The idea is to bring down the cost of medical treatment and thus make healthcare and medicines within reach of common man's pocket. Today the cost of medicines of branded names are high and one has to take them for lifetime as per the medical condition of patients. With such centres across Goa, it will give relief to the poor and common man in terms of medical treatment.
