Black fungus, medically known as mucormycosis or formerly known as zygomycosis, is causing a crisis within a bigger crisis of Covid-19.
This disease is mostly found in those having low immunity and indiscriminate use of steroids in Covid, HIV AIDS and diabetes. It is caused by a fungus or molds found abundantly in our environment called micromycetes. It is also caused as a result of unhygienic way of delivering oxygen to Covid patients with unclean water. According to statistics, there are 8848 cases in the country and rapidly growing. Early diagnosis and treatment of this disease are vital. Mucormycosis should not be taken lightly as it is an aggressive and invasive fungal infection with lethal ramifications and fatalities. Several cases have been recorded in the state with one fatality. It is time for us to maintain a clean habitat at all times and at the same time work on our immunity levels.
