The BJP leaders, keeping an eye on the South Goa seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and after being accused by some opposition parties for slowly trying to permanently shut down the Dabolim airport, are now heard desperately assuring the people of Mormugao taluka that both Dabolim and Mopa airports would continue to operate simultaneously even in the near future.
Well, the concept of two airports in close proximity has never worked in several Indian states, and one of the two airports has always been made to shut down eventually due to low footfalls. Which means that the Dabolim airport too (despite verbal assurances given by most BJP leaders of today) will meet a similar fate.
I, therefore, think that the people of Mormugao taluka, instead of questioning the current BJP leaders over the Dabolim airport issue, should blame themselves for not questioning their own past leaders (especially from Salcete and South Goa) from the erstwhile ruling Congress party all these years, despite turning them into ‘bhakraas’ by openly backstabbing them and wholeheartedly supporting the Mopa airport project right from day one to somehow slowly shut down the Dabolim airport.
