The PWD will start removing illegal structures built on public roads. This will be based on its own surveys or information given by local bodies and elected representatives. Public Interest Litigation (PIL) Suo Motu 3 of 2024 has shown how both the authorities and those breaking the law are responsible for the current mess. Ignoring citizens’ right to be heard is nothing but bullying. The police have shown they only follow orders, rather than protecting the public. Will the PWD or any government department “ such as Agriculture, Water Resources (WRD), or Captain of Ports “ take action against illegal statues and religious structures that have come up without permission? Or will power and influence continue to rule Goa? In Siolim, road widening work that began has now reached Anjuna. The Chief Minister cannot stay silent on this. The Director General of Police should investigate who gave the police permission to protect the demolition team when no official work order was in place. I appeal to the Hon’ble Judges of the High Court to take suo motu notice of such incidents. These actions are happening without following proper legal process. Goa is an international tourist destination, and if the law does not work for its own people, what message does that send to visitors about justice in our state?
