The international airport at Mopa is named as Manohar Parrikar International Airport but sadly the name is not in common use. Panaji is known as Panjim and Sambhaji Nagar is commonly known as Vasco. Hence the international airport of Manohar Parrikar be better called as MAPA international airport. It is beautifully laid out and is comparable to standards of international airports of the world. A lot of space is available for all purposes of expansion. The land prices have been ridiculously low at Rs 75sq m. The politicians in general with inside knowledge have bought vast tracts of land at throwaway prices, as that was windfall for the innocent owners. Most of the air travellers are believed to be from south Goa. Hence it is most inconvenient for them to arrive in time of 3 hours earlier, spending as much time to travel to airport. Besides the exorbitant fares are the bone of contention .The important thing is to provide rapid transport system at cost effective prices. But one has to visit the airport to experience the site and artistic lay out. MAPA is really a site to savour, admire and soak in the beauty, grandeur during arrival or departure.
