The blocking of 'Reuters' and 'Reuters World' handles on X ( formerly Twitter) has triggered a slanging match between the social media giant and the Indian government, with both sides blaming each other. The matter may end up in court, X said, as the block orders amount to press censorship. The platform's global affairs division let out that the government had ordered it to block 2,355 accounts in India, including that of international news outlets Reuters and Reuters World. "Non-compliance risked criminal liability. The ministry of electronics and information technology (Meity) demanded immediate action within one hour, without providing justification, and required the accounts to remain blocked until further notice." It added that after public outcry, the government requested unblocking of the two handles. The sarkar on it's part has claimed that when it 'noticed' the handles were blocked in India, it immediately instructed X to revive them and that it took 21 hours of active pursuit on its part to get the job done. This is obviously a blatant lie to save face by the regime which is forever actively engaged to suppress social media platforms which host posts by independent voices critical of the Centre.
