Even today in India, child marriages occur during "mass weddings" held on auspicious days. To prevent such marriages, the Supreme Court has now issued directives. However, the real question is, how is the practice of child marriage still ongoing? On such auspicious days, judicial magistrates will now closely monitor these events, as directed by the Supreme Court to the concerned departments. Child marriage is indeed a serious social problem. To address this problem, the Supreme Court has issued various orders. Special officers will now be appointed in each district. Additionally, the enforcement of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, faces challenges due to several personal laws. The main reason behind this is the conflicting judgments by high courts and the failure to consolidate these rulings. The Prohibition of Child Marriage (Amendment) Bill was introduced in Parliament on December 21, 2021, and has been referred to various departmental standing committees. Child marriage remains a major unresolved social problem in the country, and Parliament needs to address it seriously.
