The assault against Navelim youth Edwin Coelho by PSI Stanley Gomes needs to be viewed seriously. The duty of the police is to maintain law and order and not create law and order problems. The public will have no faith in the police and will be reluctant to go to the police station if they act like goons. Today it is a resident of Navelim, tomorrow it could happen to any common man in Goa who protest for their democratic rights. This type of State-sponsored hooliganism must be nipped in the bud and the PSI should be terminated and not suspended. The Chief Minister who is the Law and Home Minister should apologize to the family of the victim.
