Coalition politics is here to stay


People in Goa seem to have signs of difficulty in zeroing in on which party to vote for since, there are many parties in fray like Congress, TMC, AAP, BJP, GFP, Revolutionary Goans, besides newly constituted electoral platforms as well as independents. 

Under normal circumstances, the choice should have been between an unified Opposition against the ruling party, but inability by individual Opposition parties to align together is leading to an unnecessary split in votes. 

Announcing attractive looking social welfare schemes could play a decisive role in cornering votes. But if the Opposition parties are offering pecuniary enticements it is because the party in power have shown the way.

It may not be wrong to say that if alliances do not materialize, then coalition politics is here to stay. Also smaller opportunistic electoral platforms may have the freedom to align and jostle for prominence if they are successful and are needed to make up the numbers.
