Concerns over conditions at new SGPDA fish market

I wish to highlight the deplorable condition of the newly built and soon-to-be inaugurated SGPDA Wholesale Fish Market. The market premises are plagued by severe water logging, foul smell, and unhygienic conditions, making it difficult for people to walk and posing serious health risks due to mosquito breeding, especially during the rainy season when stagnant water spreads infections faster.

It is also disturbing to note that vendors are openly selling biscuits, fruits, vegetables, and other items outside the wholesale fish market, which is not permitted and reflects poor regulation by the authorities concerned, creating clutter and confusion for buyers.

A wholesale fish market must maintain proper sanitation, drainage, and discipline for the safety of customers and workers. Urgent action is required to address these issues before the market is opened to the public, so that it starts on a clean and organised note.
