Poor maintenance of Goa's water supply distribution networks is all that one can say for the leakage of a valve on the water line from Tillari dam, causing wastage of thousands of litres of drinking water. This is yet another case of colossal wastage of this precious commodity through frequent pipe bursts. We are in the midst of the peak monsoon season where all our dams are either full or overflowing. Despite this, we have several parts of Goa witnessing acute water shortage of drinking water. What a bitter irony, to say the least. Secondly, in summer months we keep blaming the humid and sultry weather that contributes to huge evaporation losses, resulting in steep falls in lake levels. Why was no thought given earlier to conserve the surplus overflowing water from dams sites by building large underground water storage tanks and using the stored water during the summer months. This would have solved most of our water problems and probably fulfilled our long-cherished dream of 24x7 water supply.
