The allegation of corruption against Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has sent shockwaves across the country.
Corruption is nothing new. This has been going on since independence. For this reason, Home Ministry is the most sought after portfolio next to that of Prime Minister and Chief Minister.
Police are always 'under the thumb' of their political masters to carry out their wishes. The stunning allegation that Deshmukh wanted police officers to collect Rs 100 crore per month is shocking. And it's one of the darkest moments in Indian democracy when a dispensation duty-bound to protect people has indulged in government-monitored and controlled extortion racket.
The continuation of such a government amounts to throttling democracy. The exposure of this shows how corruption is established in our present system.
It's a shameful act which is discrediting and destroying the whole country and its infrastructure. Over the last few decades, various political parties have tried to politicize the police force and prevented them from enforcing law.
The police force has lost its effectiveness in many parts of the country. Corruption is generally the use of public power for private profits in a way that constitutes a breach of law or social norms.
It is evident that the politicians are doing nothing but serving themselves. The politicians ignore the rule of law to pursue their own agenda.
