Reportedly, in April 2025 a final year BSc student in Goa did not obtain passing marks in a chemistry paper and was to repeat the exam in October. As he had not filled the examination form, before the last date and even by the extended date, the Goa University rejected his application to allow him to appear in the October exams. The student filed a case in the High Court of Bombay at Goa stating that he had missed the bus and hence could not submit in time the examination forms. The petition was dismissed on the grounds that the student had remained casual and the college and university cannot be blamed. But the Supreme Court gave a favourable verdict and permitted the student to sit for the exam. It is incredible that the student was unaware of the form submission dates and gave an excuse of having missed the bus. A simple incident was dragged up to the SC, which is already overflowing with lakhs of unresolved cases, and cost the student’s parents a packet on lawyers, travel etc.
