The Delhi Bar Council has filed a PIL that they be declared as frontline workers and be administered the vaccine along with senior citizens and co-morbid people.
Hearing the plea the High Court remarked that India is not utilising the full capacity of the 2 vaccine institutes who must declare their capacities.
Further, the HC noted that they are either donating or selling the vaccines to foreign countries and not vaccinating our own people and that there has to be a sense of urgency and responsibility.
Still further, the HC asked the Delhi government to inspect the medical facilities in the Court complexes and report if Covid-19 vaccination centres could be set up there.
The courts have taken care of their ilk. What about the rest? By selling vaccines to foreign countries the government will be depriving locals of the same.
Brazil has placed an order for 20 million doses of the vaccine. Two million doses have already been delivered. Is this ethical? Are we not depriving our own brothers and sisters of getting the vaccine?
Helping others is a basic human trait. If India wishes to help other countries then it must ramp up production capacities, complete vaccination of Indians and then export.
