Whenever new mobile towers are being installed by various service providers people come on to the streets to protest and file petitions to cancel the permission given for installation. Even in areas where towers have been erected in the past, people have asked these to be shifted from residential areas. In both the cases, the fear is about the electromagnetic radiations emitted from the mobile towers and the consequences on the health of the people residing in the vicinity. There are different schools of thought on the aspect of harmful radiations and cause of serious maladies. To circumvent the objections from residents about health hazards, the service providers could collaborate and create “mobile tower parks,” similar to solar panel parks and wind turbine/windmill parks where several installations are clustered in a common place to save resources and ease of maintenance. Mobile towers could be set-up in barren or in sparsely populated areas so that the radiations would be concentrated around these parks. And for the service providers it could be cheaper as the land cost could be shared instead of each of them paying rentals to erect towers over private houses, office buildings and housing societies.
