Curbs on outsiders flooding State should be put in place

Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai has criticised the slogan -- Goa for Goans only, and asked the people of Goa to eschew this philosophy. He has, however, admitted that Goa and Goans have been open hearted in welcoming outsiders here since time immemorial. The reason for this slogan is that Goa is a small land mass and its population is also limited. If we allow people from across India to come here then there will be no land left for the average Goan to build his home and also the local population will be reduced to a minuscule minority having no voice.  A State like Kerala was insular to the extreme until about maybe 20 years ago. It is only lately that Kerala has accepted outsiders or migrants in professions like that of plumbers, masons, carpenters, electricians and for jobs in the service industry because of compulsions of out-migration of local people to the Gulf and other areas abroad.  Goa has its own unique problems and is bursting at its seams with outsiders and it is time to put a stop to this.
