Deportees should not blame friends or agents. Instead, they must reflect on the greed that led them to take such risks. Filing a police complaint against the agent from Vasco is a good step. However, the agent did not force anyone to pay. He had already warned about the risks of crossing the United States border illegally, which is a criminal offence under international law.
Those deported knew they would have to take dangerous ‘donkey routes’ through Mexico but still agreed for the sake of quick money. Now, some politicians are irresponsibly blaming the BJP government. But did the government ask them to enter the US illegally? No government can provide jobs to every citizen”many work in the private sector or run businesses. Sadly, some Goans want easy money without effort. Every country has its own rules. The Indian government cannot ask the US to change its policies for illegal immigrants.
The government should take strict action against agents who cheat people and also create policies ensuring a basic salary standard for Goans working abroad. Our embassies must be strong enough to protect citizens, earning respect from other nations. Politicians must stop blaming the US and focus on guiding deportees. The US will treat illegal immigrants as criminals”no one should expect a warm welcome. I urge Goans not to fall into the trap of agents. Control expenses, avoid unnecessary spending, and never feel ashamed to work in your own state. Outsiders profit in Goa because we give them opportunities. Let’s value our own land and work hard for a better future.
