Besides a place to reside, the other 4 essentials that any person needs are water, air, road and electricity (WARE). Every political party promises all these but we have to take these with a pinch of salt. One party would assure free electricity to every home, another will promise thousands of litres of water per family and one would hint at free education and health facilities. Some other party would promise free roads ie, free from craters, calderas and pot-holes. Perhaps all these are good welfare measures and let us take what is given, whenever these are doled out, if at all.
Incidentally, none of the parties are doing a favour to the citizens by such gimmicks. We should not be surprised if in the future a party guarantees free air for the people! In the pursuit of WARE, we need to be aware and beware of such unrealistic schemes. Let us pay the government its rightful but justifiable dues, because once we fall in the trap of ‘free’ we cannot complain of deficiencies in services. Remember that there is no such thing like a free meal.
