Do statutes inspire our fellowmen?

Apropos to Netaji's grand statue to be installed at India Gate (The Goan Everyday 22 January 2022)

So, yet another huge statue, this time to honour the iconic freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on his 125th birth anniversary.

Good thoughts on the part of the government, honouring our freedom fighters. Be that as it may, one wonders, what are we looking to achieve by installing such statues? Is this the right and only way to honour great personalities? Will a massive statue inspire our fellowmen to do great deeds for our country? Will this help in bringing about unity & peace among the various communities in the country? Will it strengthen our Democracy?

Today, there seems to be so much of discord, so much of mistrust among communities and there have been news reports of persecution of minorities in recent times.

The political scene looks fragile. Where are we heading? Can we divert all our efforts, our energies towards preserving our hard fought freedom and strengthening our Democracy?

That perhaps will be a fitting tribute to all our freedoms fighters. Let not their sacrifices be in vain!
