It is a pity that the focus on good governance in Goa has now shifted from some more important and pressing issues, such as those relating to the welfare and daily needs of the people of Goa for a peaceful and comfortable living, to the bogey of forced religious conversions in the state.
Hopefully, it is not the precursor to the forthcoming draconian anti-conversion law in some BJP-ruled states.
The Church on its part has time and again stated that forced conversions have no value in the eyes of God. Hence the question of inducement and luring others with material benefits to convert to Christianity does not arise.
However, all are welcome to the faith, irrespective of one’s caste or creed. It is time that Sawant’s perceptions on forced religious conversions by the minority community are changed, so that people in Goa continue to remain united and not divided on religious lines.
