Don’t stoke religious tensions with baseless allegations

Apropos to ‘Religious conversions on the rise in Goa The Goan Everyday 16 April 2022’

Hardly had he settled down after his Cabinet formation, the chief minister seems to have embarked on his agenda. He has a big task on hand with several pending issues waiting to be resolved. 

So, what better way to divert attention from the real issues than to rake up the conversion issue? Fascist groups have been complaining against conversions but now we have a chief minister of a state himself stating that conversions are in the rise in Goa. Has a census been carried out recently?

According to the chief minister, various people are trying to take advantage of the poverty and unemployment, etc., obviously linking that to conversions. Is the government suggesting that they be left to rot?

Incidentally, the chief minister seems to have given a clarion call for the people to awaken, calling on the temple & temple communities to also awaken. 

Well, really speaking, the entire nation needs to awaken to the happenings around, especially, targetting of minorities. They need to awaken to the dark realities in the nation. At this moment, that poem of Rabindranath Tagore comes to mind... into that heaven of freedom, Let my country awake..!

Cong too was rejected by the electorate

The Congress party in Goa contends that 67 per cent of the people rejected BJP which went on to win 20 seats in the assembly elections. That may be true, but the fact of the matter remains that 76 per cent of the voters rejected Congress. The party leaders must study the facts before making any statement.
