Eid fostering unity among all

Goa and the rest of the country will celebrate Eid ul-Adha on June 17 Monday. Eid ul-Adha, or the 'Feast of Sacrifice,' is the Islamic holiday that begins on the 10th day of the Islamic lunar month of Dhul-Hijja, during Hajj and it's celebrated by Muslims around the world.

This festival enjoys special significance because the day of sacrifice marks the climax of Hajj, the fifth pillar of Islam. It signifies sacrifice, charity, compassion and strengthens bonds with community and friends.

This annual pilgrimage to Makkah and Madinah in Saudi Arabia is an obligation only for those men and women who are physically and financially able to perform it once in their lifetime.

Generally, the Islamic calendar consists of two Eid festivals; Eid ul-Fitr and Eid ul-Adha. Specifically for Eid ul-Adha, Muslims are encouraged to participate in Qurbani.

It’s a time to strengthen bonds with family and friends, reconcile differences, and foster unity within the Muslim community.
