Its election time and parties and politicians have woken up from deep slumber. There is flurry of activities to lay foundation stones, announce schemes, inaugurate establishments in an attempt to woo the voter.
National leaders suddenly develop love for the state going to polls. New parties sprout like mushrooms and then vanish.
Individuals project themselves through massive advertisement campaigns, donations and other activities. Politicians who once attacked each other over policies and administration are now friends.
Suddenly, legislators who were not seen or heard in the last five years are very vocal and now have the time, patience and inclination to listen to the voice of the people and to settle issues.
This has created an utter confusion in the minds of voters, but some seem to love the goings on in a bid to cash in on the situation.
It’s time for voters to see through the smoke screen. Elected representatives and parties that could not deliver on their promises for the last five years cannot be trusted.
All the promises in the ensuing months will be just to woo the gullible voter. Goans alone have the power to bring about a change by rejecting corruption and ignoring religion, caste and friendship factors.
