The current Goa government keeps boasting about good governance and even sent a group of legislators (at taxpayers’ expense) to Gujarat to learn their ways of “so-called good governance”.
But is good governance really not some basic common sense and activities that the Goa government can do? For example, on the long-standing serious problem of sound pollution at Anjuna, post constant follow-up and persistence by the respective petitioner and his legal counsel, the High Court has now held the Director General of Police (DGP) personally responsible for addressing these serious noise violations.
My point is, why was all of this necessary had the “so-called ‘good governance’” Goa government taken on the complaints by citizens and enforced the law via Goa Police? And now, even after this well-publicized court case on noise pollution, the Goa government and the respective ministers are still not coming down on the Goa Police and even suspending the concerned police officials for this unacceptable and errant behavior.
Do citizens and courts always have to get involved to ensure the law of the land is upheld? It’s high time the courts, in my view, start suspending and even more importantly, heavily penalizing the respective government ministers and officials.
