Goa is seeing a slow but steady revival in tourism. Stakeholders are hopeful, but foreign tourist arrivals are still below the levels Goa is known for. For tourism to grow, several factors need attention, especially cleanliness. Stubborn waste remains at many sites and must be cleared quickly if Goa wants to regain its appeal.
Tourists today are very choosy and keep raising their expectations. They look for comfort, convenience, and value for money. Tourism depends on clean surroundings, good hygiene, safe and reliable transport, tasty local food, and better management of accidents. Many countries are improving their facilities and attracting more visitors as a result. Goa needs to improve basic amenities. Garbage must be cleared regularly, broken pavements and gutters repaired, and proper maintenance carried out. Dustbins should be placed across streets, markets, and near public institutions.
Hospitality is equally important. While destinations draw travellers, it is the hospitality industry”hotels, resorts, restaurants, travel services, and entertainment”that shapes the quality of a tourist’s experience. The sector supports tourism growth, creates jobs, and ensures steady development. It plays a major role in how welcoming, clean, safe, and organised a place feels. Clean toilets, regular maintenance, friendly customer service, good planning, tasty and hygienic food, comfortable accommodation, cultural events, and positive interactions all help create a memorable experience. A happy tourist often returns or promotes the destination to others.
Modern travellers expect speed and transparency. Many expectations are met through new tools such as online bookings, digital check-ins, contactless payments, smart rooms, AI chatbots, virtual reality tours, and 360-degree room previews. Hotels also use data to improve services and design better packages. Shaded rest points should be built for tourists not used to Goa’s strong heat. Rescue centres at beaches must have life jackets and basic safety equipment at all times.
To win international trust, hospitality services must meet global standards such as ISO 22000, LEED or Green certifications, star ratings, and recognised service awards. Regulators must ensure hygiene, safety, emergency readiness, and fair pricing. Tourists increasingly want authentic local experiences, and this supports the local economy. With rising environmental awareness, the hospitality industry must adopt eco-friendly practices and ensure tourism remains sustainable.
