Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has taken a strong step against long-term parking and illegal roadside garages. He has said that any vehicle parked on widened roads for more than eight days will get a notice and then be taken to the government scrapyard. Once removed, the owners will not be allowed to claim these vehicles. This sounds like a good move. But I hope this rule will also apply to those who regularly park their large private buses, tankers and trucks along roadsides for months or even years in different parts of Goa.
These days, even in small, congested villages where people don’t have enough space near their homes, many are seen parking their four-wheelers not just on widened roads, but even on narrow main roads. This causes traffic jams and problems for other motorists across Goa. What about such people? Will the government take action against them too?
I really hope CM Sawant keeps his word and gives clear instructions to traffic officials to start towing away all abandoned vehicles parked for over eight days on the roads. And as promised, scrap them ” to help reduce traffic jams and prevent accidents in Goa.
