With reference to the blatant sound violations at Sunburn, The Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court criticised the Goa government asking to "follow the law as made by government if they do not want to follow Court orders". My view is that If there is real seriousness to curb the menace, I request that errant officials/law enforcement seniors be severely fined or even suspended by the Judiciary so as to ensure a strong message is sent out; else these judicial comments will be ignored by a deceitful Govt administration and violations for sure will occur again in the future!
With regards to following the law, it is same story in so many other areas in Goa where the corrupt/incompetent Goa government fails to enforce laws in place e.g. in illegal settlements, coal pollution by the coal transportation lobby, current illegal constructions/work by railway authorities, burning of garbage/plastics in the open and related dumping of garbage across Goa particularly villages, etc. On the latter garbage point, the Goa CM recently commented that tourism in Goa will be seriously affected if people dump garbage in the open; I agree that the latter view is true but then again with the laws that are available what is the Goa government particularly the Environment Minister and Panchayat Minister doing to address the issue?
In my village of Colva, one can see garbage dumped/burnt near some restaurants, groceries, roadside eateries and most of them practically have no bins put in place by the respective business owners- Are there really no laws to ensure these things are in place? Why is the law enforcers not suspending the licence of the polluters/violators? How are the authorities ensuring that the businesses are following the law in disposing of their garbage? When was the last time the Environment and Panchayat Minister did a pollution/garbage/sewage release review of Colva village (a prime tourist destination!). I humbly request the Goa Govt that instead of lecturing Goans to please simply follow the law and address the menace.
