Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo on Saturday reportedly said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has assured her that he will not allow the Sunburn electronic dance music (EDM) event at Vagator on December 31.
However the villagers of Anjuna-Caisua said that there was no confirmation from the organizers that there will be no event on New Year eve.
As a matter of fact the organizers of the EDM have reportedly announced a four-day festival including December 31. It is learnt that the organizers have also continued online sale of tickets for December 31 as well.
The Anjuna-Caisua panchayat has reportedly passed a resolution opposing the event on the fourth day. The reason being it causes traffic congestion and affects people attending the midnight mass as also the business of the locals.
The festival also leaves behind tons of garbage and destroys the biodiversity in the location. The village Biodiversity Management Committee has opposed the entire festival and requested the government to cancel the EDM altogether.
The government needs to take necessary steps so that the organizers fall in line and not hold the music festival on New Year eve. There needs to be an official announcement from the organizers of the EDM of complying with the CM’s assurance. If not it could turn into a law-and-order situation.
