The Delhi Police has now implicitly admitted through its 389-page affidavit to the Supreme Court arguing against bail to Umar Khalid, Sharjeel Imam and others that the Modi government is a regime. A ‘regime’ is defined as 'a method or system of government, especially one that has not been elected in a fair way', or 'a system of government or rule, often used with a negative connotation to describe an oppressive or undemocratic government'. The capital's police referred to the 2020 Delhi riots as a “planned operation for regime change”. The Supreme Court had pulled it up for not filing its reply earlier, and the police has been smarting at the rebuke, which seriously undermines its argument that the accused deserve to be where they are @ forever even without being convicted. The desperation to keep Umar Khalid incarcerated is obvious. Of the 751 FIRs filed after the Delhi riots, his name appears in only one. Of 140 unheard hearings, 55 were because the judges were “on leave”, 26 because the courts had “no time”, and 59 because the prosecutors were “absent”. Injustice in the extreme.
