When tomato prices touched Rs 100 per kg recently there were newspaper headlines. But now in Goa every single vegetable almost costs a minimum of Rs 100 per kg.
There is also no apparent reason for the price rise of vegetables since of late there has been no rain, no floods that cause disruption in the supply chain.
The BJP-led government should look into this and provide some relief to the hapless consumers at least for essential needs. But any representation to the BJP is of no use since it will only fall on deaf ears.
We have seen how the government made a big virtue of the reduction in petrol and diesel prices and that too almost 3 months late and when things were going completely out of hand with the metronomic daily hikes of fuel prices crossing Rs 100 per litre across the country.
But since we have no other recourse we have to ask the incumbent BJP-led government to bring down the prices of vegetables and all essential commodities with immediate effect if they do not want to see an adverse impact of this in the ensuing elections.
