As the world rang in the New Year, some of the beaches in Goa were flooded with alcohol induced tourists. Besides blasting cringe music and littering, the tourists were seen harassing female tourists, even clicking selfies without permission. It may be noted that this comes just a few days after a rape case in Panaji. In fact, it shows a mirror to the government who had promised strict action against such incidents.
A group of female tourists reported being followed by unknown men on three different occasions. These incidents took place near the Baga beach. Such minor incidents may lead to bigger crimes. With basic security missing, on what basis should female tourists consider coming to Goa?While Goa has come a long way, the situation seems to be getting out of hand mainly due to the large number of tourists arriving in the State. The government has been repeating "quality over quantity" when it comes to attracting visitors but this seems to be more of a verbal endeavour. All the promises are forgotten until tragedy strikes. It is sad to see where the State is heading.
