Increase penalty at no parking areas

In Ponda we come across haphazard parking at different locations. On many occasions motorcycles and cars halt and are even found parked along the road with great ease.

The concerned rider/driver then goes about his work thereby blocking other vehicles and causing hindrance for smooth movement of vehicular traffic along the main road.

During peak hours traffic congestion becomes the order of the day and travellers get delayed in the process. There are many instances wherein vehicles parked at the parking area cannot be removed due to double parking along roadsides.

As far as the jurisdiction of Ponda is concerned, parking of vehicles has been prohibited at various spots. However, rules are flouted with impunity and vehicles are found parked at no parking zones.

Recently the penalty for parking vehicles in ‘No Parking’ areas at Panaji has been raised from Rs 100 to Rs 800. In view of imbibing discipline among vehicle riders, this decision seems to be quite appropriate.

In Ponda too, the amount of fine for parking vehicles at prohibited areas need to be raised on priority basis. Defaulters need to be dealt with a firm hand.
