A problem that is perhaps unique to Goa is that of buses moving at a very slow pace and making several long and unscheduled stops ( which itself violates the contract carriage rules) in a bid to take on more passengers, thus increasing the travel time for commuters. For instance, the trip from Maria Hall crossing, Benaulim to KTC Margao, a distance of @ 6.5 kms takes 30 minutes to cover when it could easily be done in half the time. I would request the Directorate of Transport to install GPS devices on private buses to track their movement and take disciplinary action for non-compliance. Due to this many citizens miss their onward shuttle services to Panjim and other areas for attending office and other activities. To get around this many people have begun to use personal vehicles thus adding to the road congestion. Many out of state passenger vehicles also enter the city due to unreliable interstate bus services. The carriage permits of repeat offenders who indulge in such practices should be cancelled by the RTO. Local bus services need streamlining and need to adhere to time tables so as not to inconvenience passengers.
