In the initial stages, traffic signboards at different locations in the state were installed with a basic purpose of assuring safety to innocent travellers.
But presently some of them have been found either in a rusted condition and some covered with creepers. Some exist in a damaged condition and some missing from the concerned spots.
In Ponda, a signboard installed over an electricity pole adjacent to Gemini Enclave near St Mary’s High School in the initial stages has been found missing for quite long. Similar case has been noticed at Farmagudi as well.
The outer frames have been noticed in isolation. The ones installed adjacent to the boundary wall of Almeida High School and also near petrol pump at old bus-stand thereby indicating prohibition of parking at these areas have also been found missing from the scene.
In their absence, vehicles are being parked along roadside with great ease. This causes obstruction to smooth movement of vehicular traffic.
A signboard near the junction at Shantinagar cautioning of a speed-breaker has been noticed amidst bushes. The same has been lying neglected for last more than four months.
It is equally important that traffic signboards indicating existence of speed-breakers are installed along the stretch of road leading from Almeida High School towards Ravi Nagar at Khadpabandh.
Let us hope that the concerned authorities would take a note of above facts and initiate prompt positive steps.
