Is Formula 4 race necessary?

Residents of Mormugao were surprised to learn about a Formula 4 race planned in Bogda after work reportedly began at the site. The 15-day event will block roads, but neither locals nor authorities such as the municipality or deputy collector were informed. The race requires a 14-metre-wide road, which is not possible in a residential area like Bogda. The location also includes a power station, Sanjay School for Special Children, a crematorium and a graveyard. Locals say the site is unsuitable and that they were not consulted.

People are not against the race but object to the choice of venue and the large funds being spent. Other places like Panaji or Verna could host it. Residents believe the event benefits only the wealthy and will create noise pollution with vehicles speeding at over 200 km/h. The race also requires permissions from central and state authorities, including the sports ministry and automobile federation, but these seem to be missing. Locals fear traffic problems and disruption to daily life. The organisers are unknown, and the event appears poorly planned. The government should reconsider and shift the venue away from residential areas.
