So the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has dealt us peaceloving Goans the mandir card, the supposed ace in his electoral deck ; Ayodhya, Kashi, Mathura and now Goa, these are distinct indicators that the saffron party is on shaky ground. He rolled out the familiar trope of 'Hindu khatrey meyn hai' much on the lines of what his controllers at the Centre utter ad nauseam day in day out ; according to him the Portuguese razed @ 300 temples (surprisingly mosques, gurdwaras and churches were left untouched ) during the inquisition of 1531, (which is nothing but manufactured history based on Sanghi interpretation and lies) and that there is an urgent need to rebuild them in order to preserve 'Hindu sanskriti' .This is divisive politics at its worst meant to polarise voters along religious fault lines in a state known for it's stellar interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence.
Sensing imminent defeat at the hustings, the CM cunningly chose the Mangueshi temple to launch his reprehensible agenda. There are more than 21 lakh temples in existence in India . We don't need more places of worship but what we do need are hospitals, schools, research labs, institutes of higher learning, employment for the youth, roads, housing, clean drinking water, vaccines and various other measures which are of some benefit to the citizenry. The mandir card won't hold much currency with the populace and hopefully Goa wouldn't become another UP or Bihar if the citizenry remain vigilant.
