The State government has reportedly asked the builder, ‘The House of Abhinandan Lodha Group,’ to immediately remove an offensive advertisement titled “Delhi, Rulers of India, Now Conquer Goa,” for hurting the sentiments of the people of Goa.
The reason why non-Goan builders have recently been bold enough to release such controversial ads is because they believe Goans are typically ‘susegaad’”people who are relaxed and laid-back, even when witnessing the destruction and degradation of their State. They think Goans are too sleepy to unite and raise their voices, even when insulted in such an open manner.
If the government truly cares about the feelings of Goans, it should take stronger action. Instead of simply sending notices or treating these builders like VIPs, they should face serious consequences, such as imprisonment, for insulting Goans with terms like ‘Conquer Goa’.
