All political parties may have been silent on the issue but Goans across the world through social media have expressed their resentment over the lifetime Cabinet status accorded to former Goa chief minister Pratapsingh Rane. That notification of lifetime cabinet status to Rane is absolutely illegal, patently unconstitutional being without jurisdiction and a very blatant abuse of power. A fraud on the Constitution of India as it violates the spirit and intent of the 91st Amendment to the Constitution.
This BJP’s golden handshake to Pratapsingh Rane is in absolute breach of law. My lawyer colleagues also feel that this is all unlawful. So let our High Court adjudicate and rule in this matter.
It is unfortunate that I have to drag to Court the 83-year-old Pratapsingh Rane who I have personally known since 1972. But I would be failing in my duty if I do not. In 2007 had to move the High Court when the Congress government had similarly unlawfully appointed then MLAs Francisco Silveira and Nilkanth Halarnkar as Parliamentary secretaries with cabinet status. The High Court in a landmark ruling held those appointments as unconstitutional and put the duo to pasture.
