Public, students, and employees, including those physically challenged, working in various departments housed in the six-floor Junta House at Panaji, have been suffering inconvenience and unhygienic conditions. The building’s infrastructure has raised alarms due to cracks in the slabs, fallen plaster portions, seepage water leakages, stinking toilets, unpleasant odors, garbage, etc., thus creating an uncomfortable environment.
People with disabilities and those using wheelchairs still face difficulties when entering Junta House. Junta House is one of the oldest buildings housing government offices. The disabled-friendly toilet in the premises, at the parking lot, has turned into a dumping area for waste. Junta House houses major government departments like transport, PWD, forest, panchayat, civil supplies, women and child commission, and is visited by the public. The government needs to take greater strides to ensure its own premises are ‘Swachh’ and get repaired. Government buildings are important because they are a representation of the government. The buildings and the people in them need to be clean and well-kept. They also must be safe for all visitors, which is why they must be kept clean.
