Goa becomes lively during the festive season with a heavy flow of tourists. Christmas and New Year are celebrated with great cheer across the State. Yet, in the middle of all this colour and noise, we must remember one simple truth: Jesus Christ is the real reason for Christmas. This leads to an important question ” who is Santa Claus? He is not a Biblical figure and has no place in the story of the birth of Jesus. Christmas marks the birth of Jesus Christ, who came into this world, died on the cross, and rose again to save humanity from sin.
Today, Santa images and decorations are seen everywhere ” in homes, shops, and public spaces. Many churches have expressed concern about this growing trend, as it shifts attention away from the true meaning of Christmas. We do not celebrate our own birthdays with Santa, so why should we do so on the birthday of Jesus? It is time to reflect and return to Biblical values. Let us say “no” to Santa and celebrate Christmas in a way that honours Jesus Christ. Let us guide our children towards love, peace, and joy that come from faith, and stop following traditions blindly.
