Earlier speculations of the INDIA bloc forming the next govt at the Centre have been finally put to rest with the announcement by Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge that they would prefer to 'Wait and watch' --- a view also shared by NCP chief Sharad Pawar and the rest. By any reckoning, it appears to be a wise decision taking into consideration that the Opposition alliance lacked the numbers , and expecting the NDA allies Chandrababu Naidu and Nitish Kumar of the TDP and JDU respectively to defect was like waiting for the heavens to fall. Nevertheless it was a well- fought battle by the INDIA bloc members to restrain the BJP from obtaining a majority on its own , and compelling it to depend on its NDA allies to form the new govt. In short, Modi hegemony has now ended. It will now be easier for Parliament to function in a democratic manner without fear of the Opposition members speaking up and being expelled. Laws will also be passed hopefully after debate and putting it to vote.
